Xitron expands K2 workflow family for digital print production

The new K2D-X standardizes prepress across multiple digital presses and DFEs, while K2 3.0 adds automation and integration capabilities.

Xitron has expanded its K2 workflow family with the introduction of K2D-X, a new workflow solution designed for digital print environments operating multiple presses and digital front ends (DFEs). The company has also introduced K2 3.0, the latest generation of its production workflow platform.

K2D-X is designed to address a growing challenge for print providers that have added digital presses from multiple manufacturers, often creating separate production workflows for each device.

The new system prepares incoming PDF files before they reach the press, handling preflighting, correction, normalization and imposition before delivering press-ready PDFs to the appropriate DFE. This allows printers to standardize prepress while continuing to use each press manufacturer’s native DFE.

“Digital print providers have invested heavily in expanding their production capabilities over the past decade,” says Paul Napolitano, product manager at Xitron. “The challenge is that every new DFE introduces another production island. K2D-X gives customers a common workflow that prepares jobs once and delivers production-ready PDF files wherever they’re needed, without forcing them to replace the equipment in which they’ve already invested.”

Because K2D-X outputs press-ready PDF files, the system is aimed particularly at mixed-vendor digital production environments that do not require a traditional RIP or RIP-based functions such as trapping.

Alongside K2D-X, Xitron has released K2 3.0 with expanded workflow automation, enhanced job management, streamlined deployment and improved third-party integration. The updates are designed to reduce manual intervention while allowing printers to integrate a broader mix of production technologies.

Xitron, a subsidiary of Hybrid Software Group, develops Harlequin-based RIP and workflow technology for commercial, flexographic, screen, digital and high-speed inkjet printing.

The company will demonstrate K2D-X and K2 3.0 at PRINTING United Expo 2026 at the Hybrid Software booth, C1371.
